Welcome to Sunny's Perch!
Greetings! My name is Sunny, and I'm a female Sun Conure (Aratinga Solstitialis) - thanks for visiting my Internet perch! Pull up a branch and stay a while. =)

If you are a parrot that has decided to keep a pet human around the house like I do then you already know how difficult they are to train. Let me assure you that it is worth the effort to overcome their slow learning curve because opposable thumbs are pretty handy to have at your disposal! I have my human trained to preen my feathers so that I always look my best. However, be warned that humans aren't smart enough to learn to speak parrot so you will have to learn their language. This site will tell you about my pet human and give you some insight in to the things that we like to do together. Hopefully you will enjoy hearing about all the fun we have together and find some useful pieces of information along the way.

My human's name is Michael Lachtanski, but he'll answer to practically anything...Lach, Mike, or even Rat (from his old Brooklyn days.) When I need him to perform a service for me, I can easily get his attention by whistling or saying "Good Boy." Sometimes I try to get his attention by screeching, but he's a little slow and it doesn't seem to work very well. Being a superior species I am fully flighted and can fly wherever I desire to go, but humans lack such a glorious ability and must resort to mechanical means of transportation. Mike has a Red Ninja 250 Motorcycle and an Atomic Orange C6 Corvette to get around in. I especially like it when he takes me out for a ride in the RAT MBLE since orange is one of my colors too! ToJ Website Having a human for a pet is not all that simple. You'd like to have him around all day long to do your bidding, but you really need him to get a job and earn some money. After all - fresh fruit, bird cages, and bird toys all cost money, and you don't want to starve to death. Mike works for HP as the Manager of the Media Solutions team. Once he gets home from work then it is time for us to play some games together on the PS3 or sometimes board games! We also spend time gaming on the PC with his guild, The Talons of Justice!

It is important to make sure your pet human eats healthy food and exercises frequently to stay in good shape. I get my exercise in every day by flying, but Mike has to resort to mundane activities like running.  I think he envies my ability to fly because he goes rock climbing so he can get a bird's eye view of things.   Mostly he can be found climbing and/or making excuses at the local climbing gym, Planet Granite.  He goes on frequent weekend climbing trips as well, mostly to crags in California including Castle Rock, Pinnacles, and Owens River Gorge.  He has also gone on extended climbing trips to Boulder, Colorado and even Arco, Italy! On rare (very rare) occasions he has managed to flash a 5.11c climb indoors but usually spends most of his time scraping up his skin on 5.10b - 5.11b climbs.  If only he had wings like me it would be so much easier for him to get to the top and he wouldn't have to wear those goofy shoes either! Even though your pet exercises and eats healthy sometimes they may get sick anyway. When that happens you will have to do your best to help them recover. Mike was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease in June of 1997 and kept a treatment journal of his experiences while fighting to regain his health. I played a key role  in his recovery by snuggling up on his neck and keeping him warm every chance I got. We watched a lot of sports on TV during his treatment and always rooted for our favorite teams - the San Jose Sharks and the New York Mets!  He continues to maintain a post-treatment journal which was last updated on 8/05/22.

The best part about having a pet human is when he is home and you get to spend time together. Mike and I like to listen to classic rock while we surf the web. I make Mike do all the typing because my neck gets tired very quickly when I have to peck on the keyboard with my beak. Plus I need to save my energy so I can dance when my favorite tunes come on the radio. When I get tired from dancing sometimes we snuggle up together on the couch and watch our favorite Blu-Ray Movies and TV Shows. If there is something scary on the TV then I will just hide inside Mike's shirt until it's safe to come out, usually after I take a nap or two. =) Our Favorite Movies, TV Shows, and Web Sites!
