Towerbound continues to follow Ren and his expanded crew of gamers as his future knowledge starts to pay off. Literally. Thanks to Ren's growing potion empire his nine roommates have been able to quit their jobs and play Towerbound full time. They even managed to buy their own building which feels like a palace even if its situated in the worst part of District One and commonly known as The Murder Hospital. Relocation brings it's new issues including spies from rival guilds, menacing gangs, and a psycho ex-girlfriend Ren hoped to avoid this time around. Ren's friends though are starting to suspect that there's something strange going on and he has to explain. Will they think he's crazy?

Scrapbound: Now that they've moved into the Murder Hospital and taken in dozens of kids aging out of the orphanage system before they end up as corporate slaves, homeless, or both, the Scrap Rats realize they're still short on space. Since it's the worst part of D1 and mostly populated by addicts and gang members Ren is able to buy off the district council to let them clean up the blocks around it. Easier said than done unless they want to beat up the addicts and die fighting the local drug dealing gang. Ren realizes there's something strange about the addicts when one is mumbling a description that sounds remarkably like what Ren saw in his vision of the apocalypse. They're hooked on an incredibly addictive botanical that scavengers recently started bringing in from the Deadlands surrounding the districts. Turns out the Deadlands are the ruined remains of civilization made unlivable by corrosive dust and dangerous creatures not to mention raiders and your fellow scavengers which means getting samples will be incredibly dangerous. As for the gang, Ren has plans for them. Afterall, drug dealing skills might make for good potion runners in game.

Super Ren: The big reveal about his alternate timeline doesn't turn out like Ren imagined it would. Even though things are already different both in game and out than his last life no one wants to take a chance that things might revert if Ren dies so they launch project Super Ren. The idea is to toughen him up until he no longer spends his combat time hiding and can actually defend himself. Practicing combat is absolutely the last thing Ren wants to do but his friends go to really great lengths to bring him up to snuff. Overall, things are going great in game for the Scrap Rats despite being a laughing stock thanks to one minor little issue. Victor may be laughing at them but their position as the number two ranked guild ahead of Prosperous' number three has the Prosperous board of directors making noises about replacing Victor even if his dad is CEO. Other guilds are trying to infiltrate them with both spies and saboteurs in and out of the game. Guild backstabbing is put on hold for a week after a beastmaster gets the bright idea to steal a dragon egg so she can tame the hatchling and dragons go on a rampage that no one is high enough level to stop.

Starting with book two, and even more in book three, the perspective spends more time in the real world than in game. The game action centers on guild development and interactions with Prosperous and other guilds until the dragons go berserk. No one is prepared for the dragons, not even Ren since this didn't happen before which drives home to him that he's changed the game so much that his future knowledge is no longer reliable. That doesn't mean the Scrap Rats won't take full advantage of the situation. the guild is also growing and becoming richer in the real world but they have no intentions of trying to move out of D1. In fact, they're determined to do as much as they can for their neighbors by cleaning up the streets and gang violence as well as insuring anyone willing to join them and pitch in gets enough to eat. That includes the addicts who have a surprising affinity for Towerbound and lead to our first look at the world outside the districts which is already post-apocalyptic by our standards.

Basically, the old MMO charm is still there along with the oddball humor but the story is shifting into the real world which is looking a lot more interesting than it did in book one.
