Now that Nacho's guild, The Chips, is really starting to make a name for itself, it is also attracting unwanted attention from other guilds. Nacho never wanted to be the guild leader, but his knowledge about the Juxtaposition made him the obvious choice. That knowledge, combined with his class and ability to provide edible food for so many, has allowed The Chips guild to thrive and advance much faster than he did during his original attempt. This has caught the eye of the Patrons, who then decide to offer up a legendary weapon in a contest for control of Kansas City. This puts all the human guilds into direct competition with each other, and The Chips realize they must win this contest or risk being dominated by a guild with far fewer morals. They must now balance winning the competition with surviving in a hostile world that was already trying to kill them.

Despite how dangerous some of the other guilds are, Nacho knows that the other humans are not the real threat of the Juxtaposition, but rather it is the cross-humans they are competing against for ultimately victory. However, this contest really undermines his efforts to bring humanity together and causes them all to fight each other instead for a chance at the legendary weapon. Lots of power leveling is on display as Nacho and the other top players in The Chips guild try to level up and grow their power to survive the dungeon where the weapon is located. Overall it makes for a nice backdrop to resolve the storylines related to the other human guilds before the CruxTerrans take center stage in the next book. Gamers will appreciate the min-maxing discussions of the leveling system, but I personally struggle with the need LitRPG authors feel to express humor by creating ridiculous monsters for the characters to fight - yes I am talking about you too, Matt Dinniman. I would prefer normal fantasy style monsters, but they are few and far between here.

MacLeod Andrews does another great job as the narrator of the audiobook version.
