Viv is an orc babrarian, and after many years of adventuring she is ready to hang up her broadsword to pursue her dream of opening a coffee shop. Ever since she first smelled the gnomish drink she has been making plans and when her final job has her slaying a scavern queen she knows the time has come. According to an obscure legend the heart of a scavern queen will guarantee the success of its owner. Things seem to be going well until one of her old adventuring group comes seeking the heart and stirs up the local crime lord against Viv. Being a shop keeper is certainly more complicated and dangerous than Viv expected, but with help from her friends Legends and Lattes might be a great success.
Legends and Lattes is a book about those who want something different than society expects of them. Viv is a an orc so everyone, including Viv herself, expected her to be a fighter and solve problems with her sword. Now she's stepping past that into uncertain territory. Among her new friends are a succubus who just wants men to leave her alone, a shy ratkin baker with a genius for pastry, and a gnome who appears to play chess with the resident direcat. As with all felines the enormous direcat simply chose its new home, and not even Viv would dare argue. Its a feel good story about pursuing your dreams and the definitions of success.
As a novel written by a gamer, game designer, and popular audiobook narrator about a fantasy roleplaying type character it seems a natural choice for our reviews. A nod here to Lore for pointing it out to me. Travis Baldree worked on game titles in the Torchlight and Fate franchises among others before starting his current career as a narrator. His love of roleplaying games is obvious throughout Legends and Lattes. The book is available as an e-book, audiobook (narrated by Baldree himself), and paperback. The e-book is on the Kindle Unlimited list.
