The Road to the Goberlings is a ship of secrets. Its Captain, Hammond Royston apparently knows something about a lost planet of riches. Josune Arriola is posing as a junior engineer to keep an eye on Royston until her ship, the Hassim can intercept them. Nika Rik Terri, the famous body modder, is trying to escape an assassin, the powerful corporation that employs him, and her abusive ex-boyfriend who got her into this mess. One peaceful cargo ship is suddenly at the top of the galaxy's most wanted list and on the run for their lives.

Humans of the future are still greedy and obsessed with appearances. Shocking. A decent body modder can give you the body of your dreams and when you get tired of that they can design another. Nika Rik Terri is one of the best body modders in the galaxy but she occasionally has to use her machines to heal and clean up some corporate special ops thanks to an abusive ex. The Eaglehawk corp promised to keep him offworld as long as she patched them up off the books. Their top assassin never leaves behind a witness so when he comes to Nika she sets in motion her escape plan. She didn't count on dragging along a shiny new body mod graduate that she saves from a protection racket. At least he only knows her as Nika James.

Josune, Chief Engineer of the Hassim is on board the Road to the Goberlings to allow her ship to track and intercept it. Eighty some years ago Roy Goberling was an explorer who came back with a cargo hold of transurides, super heavy and super valuable metals. After three trips he disappeared without ever revealing the coordinates of his find. Ever since the so-called Goberlings have been searching for clues and Josune's captain believes they are close. Unfortunately, Josune doesn't know why her captain wanted to talk to Royston but after the crew of the Hassim is murdered by a corporation she's determined to stick with him until she finds out. Royston tells her straight off that he can't give her the information she wants, not won't. Royston just wants everyone to get out of this alive.

Overall, Uncharted Stars is a good adventure. If everyone sat down at the beginning and explained who they are there would be no story. Since the reader knows most of the secrets its not difficult to guess the rest. So its really just about sitting back and enjoying what happens next. I think I preferred Linesman, but this may be the start of a series in which case I look forward to finding out what happens next.

Emily Woo Zeller is the narrator and this book has 4.5 stars on Audible. Zeller has read a variety of books although she didn't do the Linesman trilogy but a female voice might have been chosen this time since Nika and Josune provide the two main points of view in Stars Uncharted.
